The NZ Youth Section

The intention of this space is to create a platform where young people from all over New Zealand can come together and connect over anthroposophy. At this stage, we hold an annual festival called New Ground. It’s a weekend where we come together and learn through anthroposophy and connect with ideas and intersting discussions. We see New Ground as the platform where young people can come together and then continue this work together throughout the year, the possibilities are out there, we just need to form them! We’d love to hear from you if you want to connect and be a part of what we are co-creating. Please click on the link below, and get in touch!

"New Ground" is our annual gathering at the Tauranga Waldorf School. This space is intended for anyone who’s young and interested in anthroposophy, this is your chance to gather with other young people from NZ and connect over the course of a full weekend. From March 6th to 8th 2026, we will meet in Tauranga for the weekend to share food, learn new things and connect over this rich body of work called anthroposophy.

Your ticket includes food for the entire event, camping, and all all the exciting activities planned. We’d love to see you there! Please follow the link below to book your tickets.

*We don’t want money to be a barrier, so if money is a barrier for you please reach out via email and we’ll figure something out together. If you want to come to the event, we will find a way to get you here!

It’s always helpful to know who’s organising events, so heres a little something about ourselves, it’s lovely to meet you.

Who’s behind this initiative?

Monique Macfarlane

Nature is our greatest teacher, if only we give the space to listen. When I was introduced to biodynamics (a form of anthroposophical agriculture) back in 2016, it immediately landed deep within me - it made complete sense as I already knew everything is connected.

I have intimately investigated biodynamics on properties in the Bay of Plenty, Marlborough, and Central Otago, as well as spent time on the Biodynamic Farming and Gardening Association Council here in New Zealand. Recently, I have attended the 100 year anniversary celebrations at the Goetheanum.

I have a passion, a love, for sharing this knowledge, with a deep purpose of empowering people back to the land and themselves.

Currently co-creating with biodynamic, organic, regenerative, no-till, and natural principles on eight hectares in Waihi that is certified organic and includes a market garden, orchard, pastoral grazing, chickens and agroforestry, I also teach workshops and do consulting. I am an Eat NZ Kaitaki, as well as contributing a cosmic planting and gardening calendar to each issue of OrganicNZ magazine.

My favourite quote is:

“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; rather, we are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

I see life as a great adventure, and I’m here for it! I’ve been involved in the world of anthroposophy since discovering it during my years studying in Dunedin in 2014. For me, anthroposophy is a way of not only understanding the world but understanding myself and my place in it. It’s a compass on a voyage.

I believe there are lots more young people in NZ who have an interest in anthroposophy, so this is an opportunity for us to gather together, learn, and connect.
